Event photography hits the Web
Article Abstract:
Several companies have entered the new online event photography business in 2000. Washington, DC-based PrimeShot.com, which estimates the current US market for event photography at $4 billion, was launched in February. Photozone.com, which opened business in June, expects to be profitable by the end of 2001 or early 2002. Other new entrants include Orlando, FL- based JoePix.com Inc, Seattle, WA-based Snaparoo.com and Redmond, WA-based RealTime Memories.com.

Digital occupies more of the picture
Article Abstract:
The 1998-99 DIMA Data Report, which is scheduled to be released in the fall of 2000, shows that sales from digital imaging services rose 10% in 1998 for photo labs offering these services. The report also indicates that firms offering digital services had a higher increase in sales than those not offering these services. Further, the number of labs offering digital services increased 4.5% from 1997-1998.

Colormark Custom Photo & Imaging of Phoenix, AZ, is on expansion mode. The photo lab has opened a Kodak Image Center Solutions store and plans to open a retail minilab in Phoenix. The company, bought by Ann and David Stewart in 1989, has made investments in digital technology. The investment is now paying off as the company has obtained about 20% of its 1998 revenue from digital work.
