Technical analysis of the stock market, which examines stock price movements, has become increasingly important in the currency, commodity, and futures markets. Technical analysts study stock price charts in order to spot common patterns in price movements that indicate the start of an upward or declining movement phase in share prices. Studying charts can be useful in identifying short-term signals in the domestic markets and in ascertaining future trends in foreign markets. Analysts use a a variety of charts for technical analysis, including: all share index; daily bar charts; volume of transactions; and waves or time cycles.

Taurus to go live next year

Article Abstract:

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has published a modified timetable for the phase-in of the new paperless securities system, TAURUS - 'transfer and automated registration of uncertified stock.' The DTI has supervisory responsibility for the system, while the London Stock Exchange is in charge of the selection of participants. The DTI has issued a consultative document that specifies the legal changes necessary for the shift from paper to computerized securities. The TAURUS system is expected to be phased-in over a two-year period beginning May 1992.

Article Abstract:

'Ethical' funds were originally developed for investors who did not want to invest in certain types of industries or places, but the performance of ethical funds has in many cases exceeded that of more conventional funds. It is difficult to assess the performance of British ethical funds because they have been in place only a relatively short period of time. Performance of several socially aware funds is described in favorable terms, however.
