Evidence and anecdotes: An analysis of human gene patenting controversies
Article Abstract:
A summary of dominant policy concerns and the events that have led to the debates of ethical, legal and economic aspects of gene patenting is presented. A systematic review of the content and timing of major policy documents highlight the fact that policy activity has been largely stimulated by a convergence of a general social unease, the emergence of preliminary data and literature on the possible adverse practical ramifications of gene patents, and several high-profile patent protection controversies.
