Evidence on the choice of inventory accounting methods: LIFO versus FIFO
Article Abstract:
A description is presented of various systematic properties of last-in-first-out and first-in-first-out companies' accounting numbers. The purpose is to offer additional evidence on tax and non-tax reasons for company selection of inventory accounting methods. Empirical results suggest that the tax explanation remains a viable one for the managerial selection of inventory accounting techniques.
