Command performance
Article Abstract:
The implementation of a new software in an accounting firm requires the active involvement of the professional, technical and clerical staffs to ensure success. According to one study, managers or partners in a firm should avoid becoming the 'indifferent autocrat' or the 'benevolent technocrat.' Instead, they should act as the 'participative manager' by involving staff in the process. This can be done by identifying training needs, forming user committees to resolve problems, retraining displaced clerical staff and asking the technical staff to assist in the design of standard financial statements.

A potpourri of valuation issues
Article Abstract:
The valuation of private high-technology companies is different from that of public ones. Early-stage private technology investments are required to produce higher returns than public technology investments. Other differences are the illiquidity of private investment and the limited capital markets for debt and equity financing, the entry of competitive technologies, and the intensity of investor and consumer knowledge of the industry and the products. Valuators are in harmony that the best valuation technique for private high-tech companies is the discounted cash flow approach.
