Executive compensation: performance-based bonus payments are on the rise for financial executives
Article Abstract:
There is a trend in American business to keep executive salary increases at the 6 to 7 percent range, with increasing emphasis placed on pay-for-performance and incentive bonus programs. Bonus payments to senior financial officers in 1985 averaged 20 percent of base pay. Salary increases for financial managers have been higher than for other functions, but incentive participation has been extended to positions other than at the top. Executive salaries in bonus-paying companies are usually higher than in companies not paying bonuses. The highest paid financial executives were those in systems and data processing.

Executive database: accounting history's link to the future
Article Abstract:
Executive information systems must be able to provide management with data that will help it anticipate the future. Operating data should not be considered the main indicator of future events but should be combined with forward-looking and predictive data (key performance indicators). Early executive information systems were slow and rigid; however, new technology called 'seamless micro-mainframe integration' results in combining the speed and user-friendliness of the PC with the power and database of a mainframe computer.

The trouble with IT
Article Abstract:
The aggressive approach of information technology (IT) advocates may induce a sense of guilt in managers that they are not actively embracing IT. Top management expects that IT indoctrination of managers will produce radical operational changes, but there is often more style than substance in subsequent activities addressing IT implementation. There is no doubt that IT has much to offer, but the incremental improvement of IT utilization is more of a reality than grandiose schemes.
