Freight forwarding and the accountant
Article Abstract:
Accountants can assist their import and exporting clients by working closer with freight forwarders and special custom duty consultants. Experienced professionals in this field do more than simply processing custom forms. They help importers and exporters to minimize custom duties and value added taxes. Some of them have established direct computer links with the government's customs office which enable them to speed up the clearance process and avail themselves with the most current information on rates and procedures.

Single figures for shareholders' funds
Article Abstract:
Companies will inflate their stockholders' equity unless they adopt the equity method in evaluating investments in subsidiary and associate companies. Current rules and regulations governing this area contain ambivalent language which may be a reason that the majority of UK companies are shying away from using the equity method. One possible compromise is to include footnotes to disclose the cumulative amount of overlaps on a holding company's balance sheets.
