Funds and finance: redistribution of wealth
Article Abstract:
There are plans in Britain to change the mechanism for distribution of investment company assets following bankruptcy. This does not often occur, but it is a possibility. The Financial Services Authority (FSA) is concerned about companies becoming involved in high-risk markets, when this could affect some low-risk investors. The FSA proposes segregation of client assests so that losses do not spread to another area of business. The industry has yet to rely to the proposals, though there may be concerns about the costs of such a scheme.

Housing trusts not much of a hit
Article Abstract:
UK housing investment trusts (Hits) are a collective investment scheme geared to residential property. The Stock Exchange has changed regulations that impeded the launch of Hits, but there are no plans to launch a Hit. Returns are likely to arise from capital growth rather than from rent. The UK real estate industry is undergoing a recovery but no boom is forecast. Hits are specialized investment vehicles involving some level of risk, so investors should be cautious.
