The accuracy and rationality of earnings forecasts by UK analysts
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted on earnings forecasts made by UK investment analysts. The aim was to assess the accuracy and rationality of the forecasts. Results showed that the forecasts are better than ignorant 'no change' forecast, but this advantage is reduced over long periods. It was also revealed that the forecasts are not developed in a rational method and do not consider all available data. Lastly, it was shown that forecast revisions can be partly predicted.

The relative forecast accuracy of UK brokers
Article Abstract:
A new study investigates whether there are differences in the accuracy of earnings forecasts produced by different UK brokers using a sample of some 300,000 forecasts of the earnings per share of UK firms for accounting periods 1987-1995. Results show distinct differences in forecast accuracy for the 20 brokerage companies investigated and suggest that overweighting forecasts for some brokers may improve a composite forecast.
