Further cuts may loom in Navy shipbuilding request.
Article Abstract:
The Navy, which already stunned the U.S. shipbuilding industry by planning to more than a halve its shipbuilding funds in the fiscal year ending 30 September 2006, next month may move to halve the funding level yet again. Currently, the Navy is working on a plan to fund just four ships for $5.2 billion in fiscal 2006, down from nine ships for $11 billion in the current fiscal 2005 and the American shipbuilding Association and others are protesting against any move to further cuts.
