Symphony in CA major
Article Abstract:
Walt Burton effectively combines music and accounting. Burton, aside from being a chartered accountant, is a professional oboe player with the Okanagan Symphony Orchestra. Burton acquired his accountancy degree at the age of 52, when Burton felt he needed a secure job other than his music work. Burton took up a business course major in accounting at the Okanagan University College. Burton still plays with the orchestra while maintaining a job for the accounting firm KPMG in Vernon, British Columbia.

Going with the flow
Article Abstract:
The Accounting Standards Board of Canada has issued a revised draft of the CICA Handbook Section 1540 in an effort to harmonize the country's accounting standards and enhance them in relation to international guidelines. The proposed draft highlights the exclusion of non-cash transaction in cash flow statements and the treatment of short-term, highly liquid investments as cash equivalents. It further outlines several standards on identifying the composition of cash and cash equivalents.
