Gas prices will increase by 10% in Jul 2001
Article Abstract:
Transgas (Prague, Czech Republic), involved in the imports and transit of natural gas, expects a profit of CEK 4.5 bil in 2001. The profit should be ensured mainly by the transport of Russian gas to western Europe. The firm's domestic gas sales should result in a loss of CEK 4.4 bil in 2001. The loss would be CEK 6.4 bil without a price adjustment. Transgas has to sell 1 cu mt of gas for CEK 4.50 to distribution firms but it purchases the quantity of gas for roughly CEK 5. Gas prices for households and other consumers will increase by 10% from Jul 2001. The prices rose by 24.1% in Jan 2001. In Jan 2002 the price of gas is estimated to increase by another 10%. The reason for the prepared growth of gas prices is an increase in the purchasing gas prices for the reason of the development of the prices of oil products on the global markets. The government wants to sell Transgas to a strategic partner in 2001.
