Going for gold
Article Abstract:
Australians are already deep in preparation for the upcoming Olympic Games which will be held in Sydney on the year 2000. Although the Games benefit the host country in the form of a better international image, they can also be a costly undertaking, what with the new venues that need to be constructed, events that need to be staged and televised, participating athletes who need to be housed, and the post-event mess that needs to be cleaned up. For the Sydney Olympic Games, government and public financing of facilities will be combined to minimize the financial pain of the event as much as possible. The Olympic Coordination Authority is handling the provision of infrastructure while the Sydney Organizing Committee for the Olympic Games will take care of the Games themselves. International sponsorship deals are already being made and international television rights being sold for the event.
