Going full circle
Article Abstract:
The 360-degree feedback system is regaining popularity as a tool for evaluating employee performance. This approach involves superiors, subordinates, peers and even customers in the assessment of an employee. It was in vogue in the mid-1990s, but many initiatives failed because they were undertaken without any real understanding of how it should be managed. The resurgence of 360-degree feedback can be attributed to the strong endorsement of companies that have been successful in implementing it. AT&T, General Electric, British Airways and other high-profile companies have found that this approach offers a more complete picture of employee performance. Full-circle evaluation is also gaining greater acceptance because of the availability of hard evidence that it contributes to the bottom line.

Play the game
Article Abstract:
Game theory is a complex set of mathematical calculations that explains how one set of probabilities affect the outcome of the whole. The theory, which has been used in shedding light on such issues as global warming, has only recently been applied to the world of business. Game theory's main application to business has been in the area of deciding when a company should cooperate or compete with its rivals. Under the guidance of game theory, a company is advised to cooperate with its competitors when the market share is increasing and to begin competing only when the market share has reached its full potential. The theory has taught some of world's biggest firms that their industry rivals should not always be seen as enemies and that cooperation can also be a means for growth.
