HSBC's fund with a flaw
Article Abstract:
HSBC Asset Management is launching a new fund called the HSBC International Pep Plus. The new fund is geared to investors seeking to reduce risks, though it does not offer a guarantee. It allows investors to benefit from tax advantages of a personal equity plan (Pep). Investors have to retain the investment for five and a half years in order to benefit from capital protection, and they only obtain capital gains from this fund. There could also be risks since the fund gives exposure to seven stock markets world wide.

Institutional attitudes
Article Abstract:
UK institutional trust shareholders have changed their attitude to holdings and have more clarity of vision over what trusts can offer them. Such shareholders are more likely to sell stock when markets are firm and at a graua pace rather than attempting a takeover bid. Private investors should benefit from this change in attitude. There has been a move toward private investors in investment trusts. Institutions are likely to continue to be important especially where there are niches.
