Halifax
Article Abstract:
Halifax is the largest British mortgage lender and has dominated the market for some decades, though it faces competition from new, low cost lenders. Savers expectations have also increased, and this has led to margins being reduced between borrowing and lending rates. Mortgages account for 65% of Halifax's profits, though the bank has started to diversify. The bank also suffers from high costs compared with some lenders, and it is losing market share in terms of new mortgages. The bank is investing in an internet service, but changes will take time to have an effect.
