Hercules bid too weak, says chemicals group
Article Abstract:
Hercules' bid for Allied Colloids is opposed by the company which may postpone its interim results. Forecasts for Allied Colloids have been downgraded by analysts and the interims could help Hercules which has attacked Allied Colloids' management. Allied Colloids may postpone the interims until Jan 1998, or use the interims to back a claim that it is worth more than Hercules is offering. Bills could be deferred and other measures could be taken to lift the figures.

BASF tune-up wins applause
Article Abstract:
BASF is selling BASF Magnetics to RAKS. This follows several years' losses for BASF Magnetics. BASF has also sold a majority holding in Kali and Salz, acquired by PCS, a Canadian company. BASF's share price rose following the announcement of these sales. The company's share price had not performed as well as that of rivals, and the move boosts shareholder value as well as fitting in with a wider trend for German chemicals concerns to spin off units.
