IPOs: The narrow window closes?
Article Abstract:
The amount of money raised by the various biotech firms through the initial public offerings (IPOs) in the United States markets has reduced considerably towards the end of 2004, thus making the biotechnology IPO market appear less attractive. The decrease in the amount of money raised by biotechnology firms through IPOs is attributed to the lack of enthusiasm for the biotech IPO markets, and as no IPOs were filed by the biotech companies during the fourth quarter.

This will be soon hampered by new legislation issued in mid December 2004 by the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) that requires employee stock option compensation to be treated as an expense, a practice that is closer to most accounting standards in Europe.
