Who's who on the Council
Article Abstract:
W.H. Smith Group Plc Group Financial Controller Paul Boyle, Ernst & Young partner Gavin Burnett, and Hays Allan's John Gordon are three of the seven new members that have been appointed to the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland Council. Boyle hopes that the Institute remains distinctive and not become a smaller replica of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales. Burnett believes that the key factors in the makeup of outstanding chartered accountants are personality and intelligence. Gordon hopes to advocate the views of smaller firms on the Council.

Gordon Lowden
Article Abstract:
The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland elected Gordon Lowden as its 1988-89 president. Lowden formerly served as partner of Peat Marwick McLintock in Dundee (Scotland) and was the head of the Accountancy Department of the University of Dundee. Lowden's presidency comes at a crucial time because the membership is being called upon to vote on the continual independence of the Institute from its British counterpart.
