Improved menus? Where insiders are dining in their own restaurants
Article Abstract:
Consumer spending has evidently gone up with the recent increase in insider accumulation in some restaurant firms. Some of the restaurants which had posted sufficient buying include Uno Restaurant Corp., Darden Restaurants Inc. and Cooker Restaurant Corp. At Uno Restaurants, Chmn. Alan Spencer and Pres. Craig Miller both considerably improved their common holdings while five executives were responsible for the pick-up in Darden's insider buying activity. Meanwhile, Cooker's most active buying was at the low prices.

These insiders may eat in their own restaurant but the company is picking-up part of the tab
Article Abstract:
The bustle in the stock market for Darden Restaurant shares is traced to executives' compensation through loans and stock option grants for their open-market purchases, aside from set stock ownership guidelines for its insiders as revealed in company documents. Instead of serving as a positive indicator of growth for the establishment, the said activity only ensued because of the self-serving motives of those who engaged in it, who, in turn, benefited more than the business outfit itself.
