Independent Energy's deregulation plans

Independent Energy generates and sells electricty and is the only company to do so in the United Kingdom that is not the result of a privatization. The company aims to attract smaller and medium businesses and has some 700 customers. There is no plan to target the mass market of private consumers. The company is increasing its generating capacity, though it does not plan large power stations. The company's profit is forecast at 1 million pounds sterling for 1997 to 1998.

United Utilities set for super savings
Article Abstract:
United Utilities is involved in both electricity and water, and the company looks set to make major efficiency gains. The company was set up as a result of the acquisition of Norweb, a UK electric utility, by North West Water. The company is involved in faciliies management and telecoms in addition to water and electricity. Vertex is a common services company that should achieve the bulk of the benefits of the merger, and this company's profits are not regulated.
