India's strategy to bridge the public-private divide
Article Abstract:
The cornerstone of India's new draft of policy for the National Biotechnology Development Strategy is public-private partnership, which aims at creating one million jobs and an annual turnover of $5 billion in the biotech industry by 2010. Maharaj Kishan Bhan, secretary to the New Delhi-based Department of Biotechnology (DBT) state that the news strategies introduced will put India into the global biotech league.

Indian biogenerics industry emerges
Article Abstract:
An estimate is made that the domestic Indian generics market for pharmaceutical and biotech drugs would triple by 2005. The trade-relation intellectual property rights (TRIPS) agreement with effect from January 1 2005, would no longer allow the Indian companies to copy drugs from western patents.
