Several industries are ranked according to volume of stocks accumulated or disposed. Some of the industries that are accumulating stocks include banks, insurance, gas utilities, home furnishings, industrial machinery, real estate, electrical equipment and real estate investment trusts. Business services, computers and peripherals are some of the industries that are disposing stocks. Coal and the apparel industries are neutral industries.

Investors should realize that companies facing high Wall Street expectations are at risk of earnings disappointments in 1997. One example is Input/Output whose price fell from the $25 range to $16 after news that its earnings failed to meet expectations. Investors should focus on companies whose stocks are trading at their lowest and experiencing tax loss selling such as AT&T, SPC Transaction Services Inc. and Center Corp.

Article Abstract:
The collective action of insiders in different companies within a single industry is more reflective of the health of the industry than the maneuvers of insiders in individual companies. As of late 1995, the oil and gas, steel, metal and precious metals industries seem to be making a comeback, judging on the positive action of their insiders.
