Influence of carrying heavy loads on soldiers' posture, movements and gait
Article Abstract:
A study examines changes in gait and posture caused by increasing load carriage in military load carriage systems (LCS). The main biomechanical effects of military load carriage include increased range of motion (ROM) of the knee, increased forward lean and increased moments created by the head acting with the trunk to counterbalance the load, all of which necessitate increased muscular forces, perhaps exacerbating injury potential.

Influence of carrying book bags on gait cycle and posture of youth
Article Abstract:
Ten subjects with ages from 11-13 were observed to study the effect of different methods of carrying book bags on static posture and gait kinematics of youth. A book bag which weighs 17% of the subjects' body weight promoted a forward lean posture. Daily physical stresses such as carrying of books bags on one shoulder were found to have a significant effect on the posture and gait of youth.
