Information sources and risk attitudes of large-scale farmers, farm managers, and agricultural bankers
Article Abstract:
A survey of farmers, farm managers and agricultural bankers indicated that the groups which directly influence their professions were the ones rated as the best sources of information, i.e., laborers for large-scale farmers, tenants for farm managers and borrowers for agricultural bankers. Records, colleagues, university specialists and information services were the other information sources considered viable. The three groups registered relative willingness to take risks primarily in farm production, followed by finance and marketing.

Use of private consultants and other sources of information by large cornbelt farmers
Article Abstract:
A survey of cornbelt farmers indicates that while they still depend upon their own records for most of their information and judgments, a greater number of them are turning to private consultants. The number of farmers who received professional consultation was highest among those with large, diversified farms, and among younger farmers. Farmers are becoming less dependent upon salespeople and other farmers for advice. The average amount spent on information services was $2,578 per farm.
