Internal organization and economic performance: the case of large US commercial banks
Article Abstract:
An analysis of the effects of bank internal organization structure on operating cost and productive efficiency reveals that centralized decision-making significantly increases costs. Findings also show that centralized service delivery systems either increase or have a significant impact on costs and decentralized back-office operations significantly reduce costs. The data is subject to numerous questions and further study on decentralized versus centralized bank operations is encouraged.
