The stock market reactions to termination of overfunded pension plans
Article Abstract:
The response of the stock market to defined benefit (DB) or defined contribution (DC) pension plan type which replaced the overfunded DB plan was investigated. Results show the market's positive reaction for the DB plan. This result affirms the theory that it is best for DC plan participants not to risk much in asset portfolio. It is then important to inform employees about the effects of investment risks on retirement income while offering them options for investments.
