Is Navy 'information management' becoming an oxymoron?
Article Abstract:
The US Navy is in a unique position to make information management a true contributor to the country's military readiness. The need for fast and reliable access to information, a key requirement of the military service, must become a priority in order to transform information management into a truly strategic asset of the naval service. The US Navy's existing redundant information management system is creating confusion and is luring the service away from a coherent plan for its future role in worldwide affairs.

World navies in review
Article Abstract:
The US Navy continues to outdistance the rest of the world combined in terms of maritime superiority based on a survey conducted in 1999 of naval forces around the world. The study confirmed the conclusion that no large- scale maritime conflict is being anticipated anywhere. The survey, which confirmed a general decline in the sizes of maritime forces, also showed an increasing sophistication in the technology used in the new ships that are being commissioned by the world's navies.

The carriers pack the airborne cavalry
Article Abstract:
Carrier air forces, despite criticisms regarding their relevance in combat in modern warfare, continues to provide the relevant firepower needed by the armed services in the 21st century. Carrier battle groups, which operate from 65 to 70 fixed-wing combat aircraft each, provide the necessary capability to destroy, shatter and paralyze an enemy's ability to function as a coherent force via the sea route.
