Is free the right price?
Article Abstract:
There are certain products and services that are already being offered for free to consumers. Among these are Metro, a daily newspaper distributed for free in Stockholm, Sweden and the Encyclopedia Britannica, which can now be accessed without charges on the World Wide Web. The companies offering these products and services for free can recover their expenses in two ways. These can be offered free to viewers but loaded with intrusive commercial messages or in exchange for detailed consumer information.

Article Abstract:
The development of product portfolios within the newspaper industry, a stable of products that are each designed to a specific portion of the market, can result in products that can actually be good enough to threaten the primary daily product. While such a thing is possible, newspapers should learn to accept it as part of a natural progression. While the demise of a daily may be bad for business, it is a better consolation that the successor comes from the same source.
