JS heading for double trouble
Article Abstract:
The UK supermarket chain, Sainsbury, has celebrated the second anniversary of its customer loyalty scheme, Reward Card, by claiming that its now has 12mn subscribers. Of these 10.3mn cards are in regular use and 50,000 new members are joining every week. There have also been three different schemes to maintain interest in the Reward Card. Double the reward points were offered over August 1998 Bank Holiday and for customers whose home Sainsbury store was closed for refurbishment, as an incentive for them to travel to the next nearest store. Double points were also given to customers who had spent over a certain amount.

Study reveals back pain pattern
Article Abstract:
A study from the UK Health & Safety Executive has revealed that supermarket cashiers suffer more back pain that the rest of the population, and also more than shop workers in other countries. The study, compiled from 1,830 cashiers, shows that 56.7% experienced lower back pain and 25.3% had experienced upper back problems. The highest reports of trouble came from those involved in trolley load/unload and cashier packing. Half of those who had problems blamed their jobs for the pain, but a link was drawn between the morale of the workers and their perceived state of health.
