Just the job: a new approach for accounting technicians
Article Abstract:
The Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) has devised a new education and training system for accounting employees. The aim of the new vocational training is to make people choose and specialize in a certain field of accounting. The scheme also involves on-the-job assessment of employees. As a result they can be certified for the specific jobs they acquired skills for or are already performing and use it to apply for jobs in either private or public sector. Employers' participation in the training scheme will give them the benefit of better trained, effective and flexible workers. AAT's training system has been approved by the National Council for Vocational Qualifications.

Competence project enters second phase
Article Abstract:
Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy's (CIPFA) Professional Committee has undertaken a project to develop new competence criteria for CIPFA's new members under the auspices of the National Council for Vocational Qualifications. Already in its second phase, the project aims to create theoretical and capability tests inside and outside of the workplace, and to determine the employer's competence to conduct the assessment. It is also designed to establish ways of merging the new standards with CIPFA's mid-1990 qualification standards.
