Key lawmaker sees Navy buying five DD(X)s, not eight to 12
Article Abstract:
Roscoe Bartlett, chairman of the US House Armed Services Committee, says that the next-generation DD(X) destroyer procurement program may be down to just five ships, instead of eight to 12 vessels as the Committee found that the DD(X) has a little more than very expensive 'technology demonstration platform.' Bartlett also laid out an extensive, multi-point case as to why the US needed some sort of high capability platforms to counter a newly threatening China bent upon becoming a global naval power.
