Knit your own internet stock - a guide to mindshare
Article Abstract:
The basic cost of setting up a web site has dropped to around 3,700 pounds sterling, from around 21,000 pounds sterling in 1991. According to BT, the annual charge for the phone line to connect hardware to the net is about 10,000 pounds sterling. However with BT's new ADSL technology trial customers are paying just 360 pounds sterling a year. Search engine Yahoo! reaches 61% of British internet users, and its mindshare could be useful to investors, as they can rent space to advertisers, and a exploit future e-commerce opportunities.

FTSE undergoes major changes to deal with globalisation
Article Abstract:
There are new sector definitions for United Kingdom stocks that are included in the FTSE International indices. Information technology has two sectors, while there are three engineering sectors, and construction no longer exists separately. The investment industry is becoming increasingly globalized and this is why the changes have been made. The changes will apply to the FTSE global indices from Jul 1999, and are already used for the FTSE European indices. Cross border analyses should become easier as a result of these changes.

Trader secrets
Article Abstract:
Trading in options involves assessing the wider pricture, and simple questions have to be asked first such as whether companies possess pricing power. Valuations involve greater complexity and should be assessed later. Loss limits should be used to protect capital. No more than a tenth of capital should be risked on a single deal. Details of technical analysis may not be important if a takeover appears likely. Dealing should not be carried out unless an attractive trend is spotted.
