Losing control: or how I learned to stop worrying and love the game
Article Abstract:
Interactive Media Design Review 1999 winner 'Tap, Type, Write' program challenges the user's sense of control. The program produces changes in the letter form in response to various keystrokes. Similarly, Jodi.org's OSS/.... CD Rom also tests the user's sense of control by producing meaningless digits, flicker changes and picture show shut down. The description of interactive design control issues as 'user-hostile' is challenged.
