Kolin will spend over CEK 1 bil on preparation for BMW
Article Abstract:
Czech Republic: The largest industrial zone is being set up in Kolin for the reason of the considered construction of a plant of the automotive company BMW (Germany). The zone will have an area of more than 300 ha and will cost CEK 1.2 bil. About CEK 700 mil of the sum is intended for the purchase of land from individual owners. The investment costs on the setting up of necessary infrastructure for the zone will be CEK 500 mil. The state will ensure about CEK 1 bil for the city for the project. BMW should make a decision on the placement of the DEM 1 bil plant by the middle of Jul 2001. The plant will have nearly 3,000 employees. The city of Kolin is the last Czech city to try to win the project. Besides, some German cities are in the tender for the construction. If BMW decides for another locality, Kolin will offer the developing zone to other investors. The automotive company Toyota (Japan) is considering the construction of a plant in the zone. The state would like to offer the zone in Kolin to a big investor not to divide it to small parts.

BMW (Germany), car company, is choosing a location for the construction of a new plant. Shortly the company will choose between Kolin, Czech Republic; Augsburg, Germany and Dresden, Germany. The chance for the Czech Republic is big. A piece of land with an area of 300 ha is available in Kolin. BMW will inform about its final decision in mid Jul 2001. The investment cost on the new plant should amount to about DEM 1 bil. The plant should have about 3,000 employees and should make 500,000 pcs/y of cars of the most successful series BMW 3.

The government gives Nemak advice: Go to Most
Article Abstract:
Nemak (Mexico), automotive component manufacturer, plans to invest CEK 6.5 bil in engine aluminium head and block manufacturing in the Czech Republic from 2001. Originally the company planned to locate its plant in Plzen but the intention is getting complicated. Therefore the Czech government has offered a new locality to Nemak, an industrial zone in Most. Nemak, which requires 35 ha for its project, will offer jobs for 1,300 people in its new plant.
