Skoda will supply tramway cars to the US

Article Abstract:

Skoda Dopravni technika (SDT) (Plzen, Czech Republic), engineering firm, has supplied the first of five low-floor tramway cars to Portland, Oregon, the US. Another four tramway cars will be supplied by the end of Mar 2001. The tramway cars are equipped with doors in both sides of their bodies, air conditioning and have front and rear steering gear. In 2001 the firm will produce another three low-floor tramway cars for Tacoma, Washington, the US. For the domestic market, SDT will produce four tramway cars and will reconstruct eight sets for the underground in Prague in 2001. Besides, the firm will commission a locomotive repair joint venture in Russia in 2001.

VOP: the dream order is ready

Article Abstract:

Vojensky opravarensky podnik 026 (VOP) (Sternberk, Czech Republic), engineering firm, completed a contract for the Swedish army. The contract on the modernization of 350 armoured carriers is worth USD 30 mil, CEK 1.151 bil. VOP had to decrease the number of its employees by about 100 in Oct 2000 consequent on the end of the modernization of the military technology of the Swedish army. The firm utilized 75% of its capacity for the contract. During the start of the contract on the repair of the Swedish infantry armoured carriers, VOP hired 200 new employees. VOP's profit was about CEK 100 mil per year due to the contract.
