Kwik-Fit's expansion sped by brakes

Kwik-Fit accounts for some 33% of the UK market for replacement exhausts and 25% of the replacement tire market. There are 570 outlets in the UK chain and a further 200 could be added. The company has expanded through acquiring regional chains and has moved into car fleets. The company is also expanding in brake fitting. Kwik-Fit suffers from high overheads and is moving into automobile insurance which could attract more customers . The company's pre-tax profit is forecast at between 45 million pounds sterling and 46 million pounds for 1997 to 1998.

Haden MacLellan: nuts over paint

Haden MacLellan is an engineering concern which has become more strongly focused on supplying car factory paint shops in addition to distributing nuts and bolts. The company has been awarded a contract worth 114 million pounds sterling for providing Land Rover with a paint shop. Some car producers have postponed investment but this is likely to change, benefiting Haden McLellan. The company could achieve a profit of 16.5 million pounds sterling in 1997.
