Lambeth and Basildon candidates for capping
Article Abstract:
Two English councils, Lambeth and Basildon, are due to make cuts in their budget in response to the British government's budget capping regulation. The limit on local spending has already affected six councils. Practically all of the 18 shire districts that were required to slash budgets have done so. Despite their submission to capping, Lambeth's authorities are still hopeful of getting away with a higher budget proposal. Basildon, on the other hand, has agreed to make an 8.8% budgetary cut.

Ruling on severance dismays authorities
Article Abstract:
The British Court's decision against the North Tyneside MDC's enhanced severance or separation scheme has agitated local British authorities because of its alleged discriminatory effects. The scheme was introduced to pave the way for the elimination of 680 jobs in order to effect wage savings amounting to eight million pounds sterling. Local authorities declared that the scheme, had it been approved, would have been a channel to salvage industrial relations during corporate restructurings.
