Lawmakers pressed for time, mull Boeing tanker deal fate

US House and Senate conferees, rushing to conclude their work on the Department of Defense (DoD) authorization bill for the fiscal year 2005, are surveying bombshell disclosures that a former Air Force procurement official agreed to inflated prices on contracts with the Boeing Co. Several leading House members have voiced concern that if the Air Force abandons the Boeing tanker deal and puts the tanker acquisition out for bid, the contract might go to Airbus Industrie or Lockheed Martin Corp.
