Article Abstract:
The Milken Institute established by Michael Milken and the European Investment Bank (EIB) has proposed solutions to address the lack of funding to carry biotech companies through the early stages of clinical development. They suggested varied solutions such as reducing the scientific risk inherent in research-based endeavors by pooling intellectual property and making an investment in several companies each of which is developing a single drug for any respiratory disease.

Scientists were able to reconstruct the influenza virus using cloned cDNA of a subgenomic segment in front of an RNA polymerase, producing a concentrated virus and cDNA plasmids that can be altered by recombinant DNA.
