Linx Printing Technologies: licence to print
Article Abstract:
Linx Printing Technologies produces printers specializing in coding and identifying products. The company benefited from compulsory printing of sell-by dates for products sold in the European Union (EU). This accounts for some 67% of the company's sales, but the boost from this market has ceased to exert as much pressure, and the company is diversifying. sales are growing strongly outside mainland Europe and the company has funds for acquisitions. Linx's profit is forecast at 2.2 million pounds sterling for 1996 by Greig Middleton.

Customer base is key to defence
Article Abstract:
Quebecor has made a hostile bid for Watmough which is scheduled to make its final defense by Jan 16 1997. Watmough has focused on its strong customer base, and argues that it is developing business in time-sensitive products with long print runs. This activity is not vulnerable to European competition, Watmough argues, though Quebecor claims that Watmough has not given enough weight to competition from printers in mainland Europe. Quebecor is seen as likely to succeed in its bid, though it may have to increase its offer.
