Long-term care: who pays?
Article Abstract:
There is concern over the rising cost of caring for the aged in the UK, as they become an increasingly large proportion of the population. Informal care by women is affected by their increasing involvement in paid work, and family networks are eroded by divorce and geographical separation. The government is shifting responsibility to the private sector and charities. Unpaid carers face loss of income and stress. Voluntary organizations are concerned that they are having to fund much of this shift in government policy.

The 1990s' way to corporate hearts
Article Abstract:
UK companies gave a smaller proportion of their profit to charities in 1995, at 0.2%, than for five years. Some companies are good contributors, and they include Glaxo, Richer Sounds and Johnson Wax, giving over 4% of profit to charities. Charities are seeking to promote cause related marketing which gives benefits to companies in terms of customer loyalty and product awareness. Tesco has a scheme providing computers for schools which is one successful example of cause related marketing.
