Article Abstract:
Russian stock prices were hit by the Asian financial crisis in fall 1997, but they could recover in 1998, and are already showing signs of a rally in Mar 1998. An austere budget has been approved for 1998, and federal revenues have improved. Reformists appear to be in a strong position in government and confidence in the Russian ruble could return. Pessimists are concerned that there may not be full commitment to economic reform, and that lower commodity prices could hit Russia.
