Brokers who are buyers for Abbey National shares include Sith New Court, Lehman Brothers and James Capel. Credit Lyonnais Laing, Panmure Gordon and ABN Amro Hoare Govett are making sell recommendations in Aug 1995. There is concern over operating conditions and Abbey National's mortgage business. Volume growth could be limited according to ABN Amro Hoare Govett.

Bulls roam in Abbey

A sample of six brokers have been asked their views on Abbey National shares. Three are buyers, two are sellers and one brokers rates the shares a hold. Buyers include SCST which forecasts high dividend levels for Abbey National, while Merrill Lynch sees the bank as benefiting from a cash savings surplus. UBS is concerned about lack of diversification at Abbey National, and argues that the bank is tto dependent on mortgages and savings accounts.
