Madness in the housing market
Article Abstract:
The United Kingdom hiusing market has seen sharp price rises in some localities, despite a drop in the rate of inflation. This could be linked to lower mortgage rates and a reduction in uncertainty. Houses in certain locations are very cheap, and there are risks attached to purchasing housing since developments in the the local economy affect house prices. This makes housing a riskier asset than stocks, though many people who invest in housing tend to avoid stocks as representing too much of a risk.

Search continues for illiquidity solution
Article Abstract:
The commercial real estate market is hampered by illiquidity problems which means that investors cannot respond rapidly to changes in the market. One reason for illiquidity is that titles need to be checked where leasing is concerned. The market also uses valuations which are retrospective. Property unit trusts have been proposed as a solution but have not yet become credible alternatives. Property derivatives would need market makers to become established.
