Making things fit: The dynamics of new public management
Article Abstract:
New public management (NPM) programmes involves ideas and techniques, and the main ideas, the market, the customer, and the contract, have been placed in areas of the workplace for which they were not originally designed. Efforts to fit NPM into the area of science and technology have had varying degrees of success, and in the case of UK social services, attempts to 'make things fit' has had little success. It is demonstrated that the nature of the entities being moulded to fit NPM is highly disparate.

Health care reforms: solutions or problems?
Article Abstract:
Economically advanced countries are pushing for health care reforms in an effort to solve problems related to the organization, financing and delivery of health care. That accounting has a vital role to play in these health care initiatives is testament to the fact that the practice does have management implications and wider social and economic consequences. This theme is pursued in a special edition of Financial Accountability and Management which was published May 1996.
