Article Abstract:
A study suggesting that stock markets hold a negative impression about publicly listed companies opting for settlement of litigation is presented. In fact, the markets prefer losing the case rather than going in for settlement. Settlement is seen as a sign of weak corporate governance. Implications of the study for management are also discussed.
