Meconic
Article Abstract:
Meconic's main activity is processing opium for pharmaceutical products to relieve pain and treat drug addicts. Peter Savage has been appointed as chairman, and he and Kenneth Green, chief executive of Meconic, have both bought stocks in the company. Specialty chemicals producer, Phoenix Chemicals, was sold in Mar 1999, and Phoenix had previously depressed Meconic's stock price. Meconic holds a near-monopoly position in the supply of cocaine and opiates in the United Kingdom, and it should benefit from the ageing of the UK population.
