Housing boom good news for quarries

Alexander Russell is benefiting from strong demand for its concrete and quarry products. The company was approached by RMC, which was interested in making a bid, but no price could be agreed. Scotland accounts for some 75% of sales, and Pittsburgh, US, for 5%. Sales for the US quarry division have risen strongly as the result of a federal road building program. The company's profit is forecast at 6.1 million pounds sterling for full-year 1999 by Bell Lawrie White.
