Minding Your Own Business
Article Abstract:
For some people, the decision to run their own business is the only way that they feel they could become financially independent. But for some, just getting by often replaces the dream of getting rich. But once the decision is made to start a business, there are still many questions which must be answered including: 1) Where will the business be started? 2) What kind of business should it be? and 3) should you take over an existing business, start a franchise or begin a brand new enterpise? There are certain areas - such as the Sunbelt and parts of New England - which are good locations, just as there are types of businesses (such as child care or services and products catering to the elderly) which have a better chance for success than others. Sources of revenue vary, from personal capital to loans from friends, to bank loans, to venture capital investments, to the Small Business Administration. Buying an established business, or a franchise, can help minimize the risk. Before doing anything, you should consult with experts to make sure the plan is viable and has a chance for success.

A Country Inn to Call Your Own
Article Abstract:
There are about four hundred country inns throughout the nation, and about one fourth of them are sold every year, many to second career couples. But these couples usually begin the enterprise with too little cash and experience. The ones who make it say it takes about five years to learn the ropes and make any type of a profit. These country inns have full service dining rooms, and anywhere from less than ten to over a hundred rooms. Advice for those considering the purchase of a country inn include hiring an accountant or small business broker, and a formula for determining a fair asking price. Those who have been successful in the inn business comment that the dining room is of prime importance - its success can help make or break the whole inn, and that those inexperienced in running a restaurant should hire some help. While the stress of running an inn can break some marriages, those who succeed at running a country inn find they really enjoy the life, the schedule, and the togetherness.
